History
Chang Industry, Inc. (CHANG) was founded in September 1989. Since then, CHANG has been awarded multiple Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) projects, some of which were funded through Phase II and III, by U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force, U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and National Institute of Justice. The work conducted at CHANG includes, to name a few, millimeter-wave and millimeter-wave/infrared focal plane array common aperture missile seeker sensor technology, millimeter-wave on-the-move line-of-sight communications, V-band power combiner, 94 GHz super-resolution passive radiometer imaging and active radar imaging, 94 GHz handheld concealed weapon detector, Wi-Fi mesh network router. Netweaver, and Active Protection Systems. CHANG produced several types of Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP) threats for Army testing. Recently CHANG worked with JIEDDO (Joint IED Defeat Organization) on Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detection technologies for detecting and defeating concealed EFP threats. Besides, CHANG's technological interests also include Unmanned Helicopter that is capable of launching EFP's, Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) that became SkySeer, and a patented all-sensor suite that later evolved to Dragon Egg wireless video surveillance system.
Currently CHANG is concentrating on the following technical areas: (1) a patented Active Protection System and its system performance characterization at CHANG test range in Utah; (2) long range video camera systems on a proprietary stabilization platform, (3) all solid-state radar technology for applications such as Ground Penetration Radar (GPR); and (4) radars related to harbor surveillance, coastal surveillance, and marine radar in general. The radar technologies developed at CHANG cover a wide frequency spectrum from microwave to millimeter wave. The company activities are now in transition from innovation driven to product engineering driven, in hope that these technological innovations can be widely available to average users and other professional communities beyond the original sponsors.
